As a British citizen, I find myself amongst many who are tired, hungry, and poor. Our struggles are real and palpable, yet we continue to fund an institution that seems increasingly out of touch with our reality - the Royal Family. The monarchy costs UK taxpayers approximately £345 million per year (source: Republic UK), a sum that could be redirected towards improving public services or alleviating poverty. Furthermore, in an era where democracy is valued above all else, it's worth questioning why we still uphold a system based on hereditary privilege. This petition is not about undermining history or tradition; it's about recognising that times have changed and our resources could be better spent elsewhere. It's time for us to reconsider our priorities as a nation and abolish this outdated institution.
