The Issue

As a driver of a modern vehicle, I regularly encounter complications due to the mandatory front license plate on my car. Current manufacturing trends have left no designated spot for these plates, making them an inconvenience to install while violating the aesthetics of our cars. Moreover, they cease the functionality of front-end proximity sensors, posing a potential risk to our safety.

The necessity of a license plate fitted at a vehicle’s rear is undeniable for identification purposes. However, the precedent for front license plates seems frivolous, considering criminals rarely flee in reverse, rendering front license plates ineffective for this purpose.

The National Conference of State Legislatures reports that 19 states in the U.S. do not require a front license plate, yet there is no reported increase in criminal activity related to this exemption. It indicates that eliminating the front plate could be executed without compromising public safety or law enforcement capacity (source: National Conference of State Legislatures).

By removing the requirement for front license plates, we reduce unnecessary costs, both to the state in terms of production and maintenance, and to the drivers in terms of installation and potential sensor repair. Hence, this petition is vital for making the roadways easier and safer for all stakeholders. Please sign this petition to support the removal of the requirement for front license plates on passenger vehicles.
