The Issue

In Colorado, as proud homeowners, the notion that we continue to pay property taxes feels like we are perpetually renting from the government, even though we have worked hard to purchase our homes outright. This is a sentiment shared by many here who feel they are continually burdened by property taxes despite owning their homes.

The reality is, property taxes are a significant financial burden for countless residents in our state, creating a cycle of never-ending payments that jeopardize the true sense of ownership. For retirees and those on fixed incomes, these taxes can lead to financial strain, forcing difficult decisions concerning essential living expenses.

Consider this: according to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, property tax revenues are a primary funding source for schools, emergency services, and local infrastructure. However, alternative funding solutions exist that do not detract from residents' sense of ownership. Implementing measures like sales tax adjustments, state budget reallocations, or introducing specific local levies can provide necessary funds without burdening homeowners.

Abolishing property taxes would mean that homeowners all across Colorado finally achieve true ownership and financial freedom. It would allow residents to allocate their resources more effectively, invest in local businesses, pursue education, or support family endeavors — all of which ultimately benefit the community's overall growth and prosperity.

Tell our leaders that we demand change. We call upon Colorado lawmakers to reassess the current reliance on property taxes as a funding mechanism and explore more equitable solutions.

Please sign this petition to urge the abolishment of property taxes in Colorado, restoring real ownership rights to hardworking residents in Colorado and beyond. Together, we can make a change that benefits everyone.
