Abolish Partisanship in Favor of Ranked Voting

The Issue

Over the last decade, I have watched the Democratic and Republican parties split our country in two. As a young man who has only recently entered the voting pool, I have seen that there is no representation for third parties or independent candidates. Many now view the United States of America as a nation defined by "Us vs. Them," leading to senseless acts of violence, the stripping of rights, and the unfortunate support of criminals. I cannot simply stand by and watch as the country I've spent my entire life in is torn apart by asinine labels and radicalism.

Our political system is broken, fostering division rather than unity. It's time for a change that empowers citizens and reflects a true democratic process. By abolishing the partisan system, we can remove the divisive barrier between "right" and "left" and instead foster a collaborative environment focused on the real needs and concerns of the American people.

Implementing a ranked voting system in the United States can offer a more accurate representation of voters' preferences. Under this system, voters rank candidates in order of preference, ensuring that elected officials have majority support rather than merely a plurality. This would not only reduce the polarization wrought by a two-party duopoly but also encourage candidates to appeal to a broader segment of the electorate, promoting policies grounded in consensus and the common good.

Additionally, citizen assemblies could serve as forums where everyday Americans deliberate on public issues, contributing diverse perspectives and innovative solutions. These assemblies would be composed of a diverse group of citizens, selected randomly (not unsimilar to Jury Duty), representing different demographics and backgrounds to ensure a comprehensive reflection of society's needs.

We need to strive for a democratic system that is inclusive, fair, and representative of all citizens. Change starts with us, and redefining how we elect our leaders is a critical step towards a more united and prosperous nation. Let's work together to reconstruct our political system for future generations who deserve a stable and thriving democracy.

Join me in calling for the abolition of the partisan system in favor of a ranked voting system and citizen assemblies. Sign this petition and let's initiate the change our nation so desperately needs.
