Abolish and Reconstruct the Department of Child Safety: Demand Accountability, Integrity, and Transparency
The issue
It started with a disease - a sickness caused by black toxic mould in a rental unit on the Gold Coast. Hospitalizations followed, causing my children to miss school. What was equally devastating was the response from our Department of Child Safety. Instead of support in our time of need, my children were taken away from me and given to the perpetrators of active DVO orders. Despite the mound of evidence, from mould reports to hospitalization records, highlighting the reason for my health decline, my pleas fell on deaf ears. But it's not just about me. This incident signifies what is grossly wrong with our Department of Child Safety - a lack of transparency, integrity, honesty, and love.
We call for a major overhaul, starting with the complete abolition of the current system ridden with corruption and apathy. We propose the creation of a new system based on the proverbial phrase, 'it takes a village to raise a child', incorporating community participation and cooperation. This is not just an attack on some corrupt individuals but an indictment of an entire failing system.
According to a 2020 report by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, almost 240,000 investigations into child abuse and neglect were undertaken in Australia - a dire situation that we must address. The new system needs to prioritize accountability and, above all, safeguard our children's welfare. In this transformed department, there will be no room for corruption that tears families apart and takes children away unjustly.
Sign this petition to instigate a monumental change prioritizing child safety. It starts with us - locals, families, communities. It starts now. Together, we can hope for a Department of Child Safety that truly values safety, integrity, and love. Let's build a system that bolsters family unity instead of destroying it. Sign today and share your voice for a better tomorrow for our children.
