Fly The Rainbow Flag in Abingdon for Pride

Fly The Rainbow Flag in Abingdon for Pride
The Issue
Abingdon Town Council recently voted, 7 votes to 6, NOT to fly the Rainbow Flag for Oxford's Pride Day 3rd June 2017. In the meeting, one of those voting against asked "What kind of message would it send to the Town?" Oxford Pride supports many LGBT+ people and their families in towns around Oxford, indeed The Chair, Secretary and Creative Director all live in Abingdon, and were very proud that members of the Town Council put forward the proposal to show Abingdon as a place of tolerance and diversity in a modern UK. For the Town Council to refuse this emblem of inclusion and acceptance, indicates that there are some still in control who do not wish such virtues to be part of an English town. We think they are wrong. Flying the flag is important, honourable, and the right thing to do.
