The city of Abilene Texas is considering renaming some of their local schools. 

If it does in fact turn out that there will be name changes to these schools, we would like to petition the school board of trustees and the superintendent of the AiSD to consider renaming Lee Elementary after our family’s hero, Sgt. Reuben “Marcus” Fernandez who attended Lee Elementary as a child. Marcus served in the Army and tragically lost his life at the young age of 22, while serving a tour of duty in Iraq. He was killed in action in 2008 and since then it has been the responsibility and honor of the Flores and Fernandez Family to keep his memory alive.  We can think of no better way to continue his legacy than to have Lee Elementary renamed in his honor. The city of Abilene has shown great support to his mother, my aunt Aurora (Fernandez) Jumper and for this we are grateful.  

Our hope and goal is to have this petition serve as statement from the city of Abilene residents and any and all fellow Americans who wish to stand beside us in supporting this request.
