POVERTY IS CANCER EATING AWAY AT AUSTRALIAN SOCIETY
Greetings, everyone.
I am writing to give you an update on the progress of the petition. To date, 2007 people have signed the petition, and that's not very good. We can do better, and here's why.
There are over 7,000,000* people who potentially would be interested in signing this petition if only they knew about it, but they don't know about the petition, and therein lies the problem. (see below for who these 7,000,000 plus people are.)
I want to ask that everyone who signed this petition give serious consideration to persuading four to six people in the next month to sign this petition. I am sure if we make an effort then in a couple of months we would have 8,000 to 12,000 people who will have signed, and we can continue with that. If we don’t make an effort and fail to persuade people to sign this petition, then it’s game over.
By persuading I mean, once in a while tweet or talk about this petition on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook, and other social media platforms and link to the petition. If you know anyone who belongs to an activist group or welfare group, then ask them to consider signing it.
Nearly every month, through tweeting and with the help of other people, I usually sign up about thirty people a month. (Sometimes more) But all I am asking from you is four to six people to sign within a month. It’s only a little effort on your part and maybe placing some note on your computer to remind you about the petition.
By game over, I mean we leave everything in the hands of the politicians, who have one set of rules for themselves while applying another set of rules to everyone else. For example, politicians can retire at 55 years of age, but for everyone else, the retirement age is 67 yrs. Another example is politicians, taking jobs and pensions at the same time and keeping both. But ordinary pensioners can’t do that they would lose their pensions. Politicians can suspend parliament because the ruling party doesn't want to answer questions and gets away with it with full pay! Imagine if workers did this they would get the sack. Oh, one more thing I did ask 33 politicians to sign this petition, but only one did.

WHO ARE THESE 7,000,000 PLUS PEOPLE?
• 4,926,678 people receive some financial payment from our government (DSS)
• 1,079,058 people underemployed (Approximately 8.5 percent of the workforce) ABS
• TOTAL: 7,085,536
Some thoughts:
In the '50s and '60s, an adult could afford to support another adult, three children and pay off the house in less than ten years. In fact, there were some people in the ’50s and 60’s who paid off their house in 2 years. ( A couple of construction workers who told me their life story :-) Today it takes two adults to support one child and thirty to forty years of their lives to pay off a house. Talk about a society going backwards!
Are there solutions to this problem? You bet there is, but don’t take my word for it, go and look on YouTube and see what Italian, Spanish, Russian companies are building houses for.
Therefore, when there are solutions to a lack of housing and poverty in a society, and a government fails to act on these solutions for the common good, then the politicians in government are responsible for the poverty in that society and its attendant consequences.
Further, when Australian politicians allow companies with hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue to pay no tax while enacting measures of austerity against the elderly, the young, the sick and the poor, then they are guilty of the most contemptible acts of hypocrisy. Especially, when they award themselves pay rises from the public purse while denying those who live beneath the poverty line any respite from poverty. Where is the justice in these actions?
