Twickenham Riverside Park Team
Nov 15, 2022

Over 5 years ago the Twickenham Riverside Park Team was formed by a small group of local residents who are determined to see the realisation of the finest proposal put forward by the Council for Twickenham Riverside in 40 years. Members of the TRPT have been working with a growing number of local residents who want to see these plans delivered.

This scheme, won in competition by Hopkins Architects, encapsulates the principles supported by a majority of residents and stakeholders, including  the founder members of the Twickenham Riverside Trust. It provides for a fully accessible pedestrianised open green
space and events area that connects central Twickenham to its Riverside.

A family café and a bistro/restaurant, a playground (to replace the currently difficult to access one); riverfront space that can be used for events, markets, outdoor cinema or just for enjoying this beautiful place; lawned terraces and trees instead of the tarmacked carpark and Astroturf over concrete in the current gardens.

With a requirement to provide 3,000 homes in Richmond Borough by 2025, it would be unjustifiable not to use part of this brownfield site for housing, 50% of which would be affordable. And yes, to fund this development for public benefit, private housing would also
be provided.

The proposal was submitted for planning over a year ago. Considerable work has gone into responding to further challenging requirements, in particular flood risk, whilst maintaining the principles encapsulated in the competition winning scheme. This has been achieved, together with further refinements to the design such as external lighting and carefully
considered paving finishes in different parts of the site.
