Many thanks to all 300 of you (wow) who have signed our petition for a car-free Riverside Park and Town Square. We’ve really enjoyed reading the very positive comments supporting our concept proposal. At the start of last week we ran a mini-poll on twitter which received 243 votes in just 3 days. The results were emphatic. 92% of people voted for a Landscaped Riverside Park (vs the Existing Road and surface Car Park that the Council want to leave as is). Your support and the twitter poll has helped to confirm that our simple concept is a winner. Now, we’d really like another 300 supporters, and ask for your help in sharing our petition with your family, friends, colleagues and other contacts. There are some great sharing options on the petition including facebook, twitter and email. Vehicle Access and Servicing Finally, we’ve had a couple of questions on social media regarding vehicle access and servicing of the Riverside site with the pedestrianised Embankment. We can assure you that our architects have given this very careful consideration and have much more detailed drawings showing all the traffic movements to Water Lane, Eel Pie Island, Wharf Lane, the rear of King Street and the underground car park. The loading bays will remain in place for EPI and large vehicles will be able to unload just as they do now. Entry/exits for the car park will be from Water and Wharf Lanes. They will be under the buildings, so that the only vehicles needing access to the town square at the rear of King Street will be occasional service vehicles (at controlled times) and those with special access for events such as the farmers market. This enables the whole town square and riverside park to be fully pedestrianised (with the cycle route). It will be similar to Richmond in this respect, only better!
