Petition updateA safe crossing into the Royal National Park

This Is the Breakthrough We've Been Waiting For

First, apologies for the gap between updates! Things have been busy, but there's also been some exciting progress behind the scenes.

The big news is that TfNSW has confirmed our proposed crossing is feasible! Maryanne Stuart passed this news on to me following our recent on-site meeting with the key stakeholders. It's a major milestone: we've moved beyond asking whether a crossing is possible and are now looking at what it will take to deliver one.

The next challenge is funding. We need to convince TfNSW that this project deserves priority and investment. That's where our community's voice really matters.

Personally, I see this first and foremost as a safety project. People visiting the Royal National Park from Loftus Station and Waratah Park currently face the dangerous prospect of crossing four lanes of 80 km/h traffic. We've all seen people run the gauntlet. Surely, we can do better than that!

But there's also a bonus: the crossing also improves the amenity of our community, even for those not brave enough to risk the current crossing. That means a direct connection into one of Sydney's greatest natural assets - one project, safer access and better connections for everyone.

A huge thanks to Sutherland Shire Council and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, who have supported the campaign from the outset and are willing to provide the connecting paths on either side of the highway. And a special thank you to Maryanne Stuart, Member for Heathcote, whose commitment brought TfNSW to the table and helped make this progress possible. If you see Maryanne out and about, please make sure you let her know how much this safe access to the Park matters to you.

We've now passed 1,800 supporters - a fantastic show of community backing. But we're not there yet. We need to turn feasibility into funding, and funding into a crossing on the ground.

Please keep sharing the petition with friends, family and neighbours. The more visible our support, the harder it is for decision-makers to overlook.

We've made real progress, and a safe crossing is looking more achievable than ever. Let's keep the momentum going and get this over the line!

– Jamie
