This morning, something shifted.

For the first time since this campaign began, I can say with genuine confidence that this crossing is no longer just a community proposal - it's now becoming a project.

I joined Maryanne Stuart MP, representatives from NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, Sutherland Shire Council and Transport for NSW on site at Rawson Avenue to walk through the proposal together. And I mean that literally - we stood at the end of Rawson Avenue, walked the route, and talked through how it could actually work. The shift from correspondence to conversation to boots on the ground has changed everything.

First, a sincere thank you to Maryanne Stuart, Member for Heathcote. Getting all of these organisations to the same location at the same time was no small feat, and it proved to be one of the most valuable things that have happened in this campaign. Maryanne has backed this proposal from the beginning, and today showed what that support can actually deliver.

What made today's meeting so encouraging was the attitude in the room — or rather, on the road. Transport for NSW had representatives from active transport, place integration and engineering all present. The conversation moved quickly past whether something should be done and into how. We discussed a safer crossing of Rawson Avenue near Pitt Street, the pathway improvements needed through the area, and how the crossing of the Princes Highway itself could work. Transport for NSW indicated the proposal appeared feasible - provided there was a clear connection into the park.

That's where Royal National Park Area Manager Brendan Neilly came in. He was able to immediately confirm NPWS's support for delivering that connection on the spot. Brendan also shared some compelling ideas for improving the Loftus entrance precinct to the Park - plans that, if funded, could transform the area into a genuine gateway to one of our greatest natural assets. Our crossing would connect directly into that vision.

Sutherland Shire Council's Sarah Glennan from the Movement and Place team reaffirmed Council's full commitment and readiness to help deliver the connecting pathways needed to complete the link.

The headline outcome: Transport for NSW has committed to preparing initial feasibility designs within the coming months.

We now have our local MP, Council, NPWS and Transport for NSW all actively working toward a solution. Everyone left the site talking about how to make this happen.

There is still work ahead. Feasibility designs are a step forward, not the finish line. But the pieces are falling into place, and the right people are now genuinely engaged.

For years, this has been an obvious missing link between Loftus Station and the Royal National Park. Today felt like the moment that gap stopped being a problem and started becoming a project.
