Wow! What a ride!
In just 48 hours the petition has flown past 650 signatures - and it’s still growing. Thank you for signing and for sharing it across your networks.
After posting in a few local Facebook groups, it became clear there’s been some confusion about what we’re proposing.
To clarify:
- We are not asking for a zebra crossing on the Princes Highway.
- This is not aimed at road cyclists. It's about people walking and on bikes using the park itself
- And yes - Council and NPWS have indicated they would be open to delivering connecting paths.
What we are asking for is simple: a safe way to cross the highway.
Our preferred solution is a signalised pedestrian and bike crossing at the existing lights (red/green pedestrian and bike signals), but we’re open to other safe options - overpass, underpass, personal drone service, whatever works.
The principle is straightforward:
- You shouldn’t have to be brave to cross a road.
- You shouldn’t have to be super fit.
- You shouldn’t even have to be an adult.
The Royal National Park is our shared resource. It belongs to everyone. But right now the Princes Highway is a real barrier between our community, public transport and the park.
This proposal won’t solve everything - but it would be a significant and practical improvement.
Transport for NSW controls the highway. The more visible community support we demonstrate, the harder it becomes to ignore.
So please keep sharing — online and offline. Word of mouth matters enormously in local campaigns.
Next stop: 1,000 signatures.
Thank you for backing your community.
