The Issue

On 2nd July 2025, a car being chased by police crashed through my garden and into my bedroom wall — while I was sat inside, playing GTA V.

The story went viral for its irony. But the real story? Far less amusing.

Thisis not the first crash into this garden. (It's the 3rd in fact since 2019)

This is not an isolated incident.

In fact, based on hours of manually recorded data, around 1 in 3 vehicles using Thornhill Road drive dangerously, recklessly, or outright illegally.

This is not an empty street. Thornhill Road has a 31-room sheltered accommodation building, a 90-room dementia care home, and is a daily route for parents, staff, and children from a nearby Primary School.

That means elderly residents, disabled people, and schoolchildren are all being put at risk every single day — because there are no traffic calming measures to slow reckless drivers down.

Reckless driving is not “just the way it is.” It’s not acceptable. And without action, it’s only a matter of time before lives are lost.

And Leeds City Council continues to say there's “nothing they can do.”

That’s not good enough.

We’re calling for traffic calming measures on Thornhill, Hawkshurst, Goodwin, Kilburn and the surrounding rat-run LS12. Speed bumps. Chicanes. Raised junctions. Anything to slow the chaos before someone is killed.

Local councillors back this campaign.

National press have highlighted the risk.

Over 130 people have signed already.

Still, Leeds City Council says evidence is "anecdotal", that "annualised data shows "no issues" and that "funding" is more important than safety!
