Protective Petition for Corrales Zones A-1 and A-2 Re: Commercial Cannabis Activity

Protective Petition for Corrales Zones A-1 and A-2 Re: Commercial Cannabis Activity
The Issue
To the Village of Corrales Mayor and Councilors:
We the undersigned Village of Corrales residents, strongly oppose commercial cannabis operations next door to our homes or in our neighborhoods located in zones A-1 and A-2. We were protected from the effects of cannabis operations where we reside, until the Council revoked that protection in August 2021 by cancelling out a law that had been on the books since 2018. Now every resident is threatened by the possibility of adjacent cannabis operation. This activity has no place in residential areas.
It stresses our water table, exposes residents to toxic gas emissions, light and noise pollution, threatens our community with higher crime, lowers property values, and affects the quality of life and livability of all Corraleños.
In the 11/9/2021 Council Meeting the governing body had an opportunity to take the first step to restore the prohibition of cannabis operations in zones A-1 and A-2, but chose to table the legislation rather than acting on it.
We petition the governing body of the Village of Corrales to take the following actions:
1. Add an item to the 12/14/2021 Council Meeting Agenda to publish and post an ordinance protecting the A-1 and A-2 zones from commercial cannabis operations.
2. In the 12/14/2021 Council Meeting approve the publishing and posting for public review of an ordinance prohibiting the cultivation, intentional growth, manufacture, and distribution of cannabis and cannabis-derived products in Village Zones A-1 and A-2, except for personal production of cannabis.
3. In the first Council Meeting of January, 2022, approve an ordinance prohibiting the cultivation, intentional growth, manufacture, and distribution of cannabis and cannabis-derived products in Village Zones A-1 and A-2, except for personal production of cannabis.
Our electronic signatures represent our resolve in this matter as concerned citizens of the Village of Corrales.
