As you may be aware from media, the Anglican church has officially (and unanimously) voted at Synod to commence the process of sale of over 100 church properties, including St Thomas'. This WILL happen, unless there is substantial public input opposing the sale of any particular property. Even with such opposition, the Anglican Church can do whatever they want... but this is an appeal to the conscience that they claim to have. WHAT CAN YOU DO? The Diocese claim that they will listen to opposition of church sales and will consider 'exempting' a particular property from sale - however the community/parishioners must provide a justification for such. Simply saying 'we don't want our church sold' won't be enough. At this stage, I have no suggestions, but urge St Thomas' supporters to start thinking about what can be done and for us to collectively fight this stab at the heart of our community and a potential heritage disaster. I have established an email address for us to start a discussion group, to circulate documents and to forge a way forward with a collective representation to the Diocese. Please email stthomasavoca@gmail.com if you wish to join the email list - with the view of us establishing a strong representation by SEPTEMBER 30 2018. If you wish to make a personal representation - I urge you to write to the Registrar of the Anglican Church, 125 Macquarie Street, HOBART 7000 by Sept 30. Brad Williams 0418 303184
