Dear Petition Supporters,

Thank you for signing the Petition for Vacation Rental Guidelines for Los Osos. We’re over 350 and growing! We have an important short term vacation rental action coming up, its a two-parter.

First, the Board of Supervisors Hearing is on Tuesday July 9th at 9am. We are asking the Board of Supervisors to deny a request to convert the home at 670 Santa Lucia, Baywood Park into a short term vacation rental. It does not conform to the density control recommendations suggested in the Los Osos Vacation Rental Guidelines as it will set in place two short term vacation rentals next door to each other.

We need a huge turn-out at the hearing. The Supervisors need to see and hear our large collective voice, letting them know how much we care about this issue. This is a serious ask - please attend, we need you, let's fill the room with a caring community!

The Hearing is on Tuesday July 9th at 9am:

Supervisors’ Chambers
New Government Center
1055 Monterey Street Suite D430 San Luis Obispo, CA 93408

Secondly, letter writing to the Board of Supervisors asking them to deny the applicant and expressing your concerns about the management and dispersement of vacation rentals in our community showing support for the guidelines. Letters don’t have to be long to be effective, short is just as good.

Please address your letter to “Dear Supervisors”, ask that it be distributed to each of the Supervisors. Please send letters now up to the end of next week Friday July 5th. This way the Supervisors have time to read the letters before the hearing on Tuesday July 9th.

Send to boardofsups@co.slo.ca.us

Here’s a few topics you may want to communicate in your letters:

1. Density control
2. The importance of preserving our limited housing stock. State and local housing crisis, building moratorium, no growth town, no recovery from loss of converting a home, losing full time residents to visitors, short term vacation rentals drive up housing prices, they hurt residents, schools, churches, and businesses.

3. Preserve character of our neighborhoods, loss of community

4. Short term renters do not have a stake in the community, nor do out of town owners have a stake in our community, as in the case of 670 Santa Lucia (Santa Barbara County)

5. It may be several years until the Guidelines are in place as ordinance, until then our neighborhoods are at risk. The county’s pattern of permitting all vacation rentals no matter the location, if continued, will impact the integrity of the fabric of our community. It’s about preserving Residential Single Family neighborhoods, short term vacation rentals are a Secondary Use.

Thank you for your concerns,
