A New Flag for the State of Kansas

A New Flag for the State of Kansas
The Issue
I have always felt a deep connection to the beautiful state of Kansas, making it difficult to accept that our state flag perhaps does not effectively encapsulate all that this wonderful state embodies. Recognizing the uniqueness of Kansas, with our mesmerizing sunsets, undulating prairies, and deeply rooted history, these elements must be mirrored within the design of our flag. More than a symbol, a flag has the capacity to inspire, unite, and instill pride in the hearts of its people.
The current state flag, adopted in 1927, primarily features the state seal and state flower. Yet, this design has, over time, proven to be unsatisfying and unrepresentative of our significant cultural variations and geographical diversity. In fact, it's been ranked as 65th out of 72 in a survey by the North American Vexillological Association (NAVA), critiqued especially for its lack of simplicity and distinguishability (NAVA, 2004).
The simplest way to change the flag would be to hold a referendum. A referendum is essentially a vote to gauge public opinion on a topic. Let's use this to show how much Kansans want a representative flag. Grant us a flag that mirrors our spirit. Please sign this petition, and let's reshape our community narrative. Together, we can make a change.
