We, the young people of Ireland who love this beautiful country, want the opportunity for it and us to have a future. Society is hurtling towards an apocalyptic future. Doomed to result in a harsh, desolate, and scarce world in which only the most able and privileged of us will be able to carve out a place.

You have taken away our future, through your gross mishandling of the climate crisis, disregard for the value of biodiversity and unregulated rampant pollution of nature.

We do not accept this future, and maybe it did have to get this far for us to act, but when backed into a corner with nothing to lose even the most docile of creatures will fight back.

The science is all there in black and white. You cannot plead ignorance or disbelief anymore. Global food systems will collapse in the coming years. Our breaking of planetary thresholds will speed up the harshest effects of the climate catastrophe. Water will become scarce. Mass extinctions will be common place. The soil, our most valuable asset, will be depleted. We will watch as the last tree falls and 4 billion people die around the world because we took more than we needed and for a brief period of time a few billionaires got a lot richer.

You are not doing the work that needs to be done to save us from this nightmare. You are not phasing out fossil fuels. You are not taxing the rich. You are not transitioning towards sustainable agriculture. You are not protecting our oceans. You are not reforesting our land and you are not telling the truth and preparing people for the worst that is to come. Evil prevails when good people do nothing. 

Crisis Theory tells us that a situation has to get as bad as it can before people decide to make a radical change. Now is that time. All the reports say so. Things are as bad as they can get and we have to rise to the challenge before it's too late. 

Humans are the most resilient and intelligent of creatures and we can do anything we set our minds to. All the right policies have been proposed, all the right philosophies thought through, all the instruction manuals have been written and we know what we need to do. The experts are there to advise and we are here to help. It will be a series of truly radical decisions that may be unpopular in the short term but we will thank you when we are raising children in the world we all want for them and we will remember the sacrifices you made to get us on the right path.

We are at the turning point; apocalypse or paradise. For this world could be both. You are presiding over the greatest existential threat humanity has ever faced and you are behaving like it is business as usual, but you still have the time to do the hard work. You will be forgiven for your temporary inaction up until now and we will work with you to create a model for the rest of the world to follow. We want a Green New Deal, a truly sustainable future where we flourish alongside nature. It is time to wake up and make a history of which we can be proud to have been part of, but with or without your help, we will be a part of that history.
