.If humanity were ever presented with a genuine opportunity for peaceful communication or contact with non-human intelligence, I believe ordinary people should have an opportunity to express their own wishes.
This petition is not claiming to speak for all of humanity, governments, scientists, or any organisation.
It is simply an invitation for individuals to voluntarily say:
We are open to peaceful communication and contact, if such an opportunity ever becomes possible.
I have also been trying to approach this in a responsible way. I contacted the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), and they kindly suggested that SETI and the International Astronomical Union (IAU) would be more appropriate organisations to approach regarding initiatives of this nature.
I have since contacted SETI and am continuing to explore where this conversation might appropriately belong.
I was hoping to ask Elizabeth April, and the Cosmic Community, for their thoughts:
If humanity wanted to peacefully express a collective willingness for open contact with non-human intelligence, what do you believe would be the most appropriate way to do that?
I would genuinely appreciate any advice, ideas, or perspectives from this community.
The video I created for social media can be viewed below
At the moment, the petition has reached the initial target of 5 verified signatures, so this is still very much at the beginning. But every journey starts somewhere.
My heartfelt appreciation to the initial signatures:
Richard Algar
Samuel Timileyin
Jennifer Chelladurai
