LETS DEMAND A change in Spokane
The Issue
Why is it that people who Kill people seem to get significantly less time then those who don’t Kill anybody?
For example:
Anne M Carpenter convicted of First Degree Murder and First Degree Assault was sentenced 30 years December 2021
David Pettit was convicted of killing his wife and sentenced to 25 years for First Degree Murder December 2021
Joshua Mobley was convicted of killing a 10 month old baby and sentenced to 28 years for Second Degree Murder August 2019
Travis Carney was convicted of 7 counts of sexually assaulting 2 young girls and was sentenced to 30 years for numerous counts of child rape March 2022
Brady Joe Lewis was charged with First Degree Murder and sentenced to 29 years May 2009
Anthony Fuerte was convicted of murdering his girlfriend and sentenced to 30 years for First Degree Murder May 2021
Joshua Forrester was convicted of killing his girlfriend and sentenced to 19 years for Second Degree Murder February 2020
There are many more but you get the picture. It doesn’t make sense to me how someone with 4 counts of First Degree Robbery can be sentenced to 35 years. How can I not speak up about this unjust sentence. Although I don't excuse his crimes and neither does he. I don't understand how these individual's can take a life and get a shorter sentence than him, and the only thing he did to bring any PHYSICAL harm to any of his victims was ONE back hand TOTAL between all his victims. NO ONE LOST THEIR LIFE OR WAS SIGNIFICANTLY HURT. HOW IS THIS JUSTICE?
Here is a little of what TJ my boyfriend has to say……
FIRST, FOREMOST AND ALWAYS, PRAISE BE TO GOD!!
What is change? Is it not moving in a different direction than the direction previously and in my case continually traveled?
Of course and understandably when some one in my position changes direction it comes with suspicion.
Suspicion is dangerous in the way that it may become the very thing that blinds you to the truth. Caution is much better in terms of hearing what I have to say, it seems more inviting in wanting to hear the truth.
So I invite you to please, with caution, hear what I have to say about who I once was and now am.
My name is Tony Jerome Powderface aka Tony Jerome Franetich I am 44 years old.
When I was 16, I shot a man and was sentenced to 10 years. That was in 1994 and in 2003 I was released. And because there wasn't a true desire for change,
in 2006 I made a bad decision fueled by a developed cocaine addiction. I chose to rob 4 individules and was sentenced with four counts of first degree Robbery to be served consecutively, meaning, back, to back, to back, to back, for a total of 35 years in prison.
In my three years of freedom I had 4 daughters, so 35 years might as well have been life. I FELT SO BROKEN LEAVING THEM, because although my actions never showed it, THEY WERE, STILL ARE AND ALWAYS WILL BE MY LIFE.
Change came in the form of God meeting me smack dab in the middle of the night, in the middle of my cell ten years into my sentence. That's another story to be told at another time.
It's been six years since that encounter which changed EVERYTHING in my life. Their no longer lingers any desire for drugs, smoking or drinking. I no longer have feelings of hate or anger. I' VE NEVER been able to say that.
God has radically changed how I think and talk, I feel so free. This isn't a religous front, this is TRUTH on ALL fronts!
With this change came a change on how I saw my sentence. If I'm being honest I stand somewhat conflicted. I NEVER was the type to think I didn't deserve my sentence, on the contrary that old me deserved every year, not only because of what I put my victims through but also my loved ones. It seemed my whole life all I ever did was hurt people, especially those close to me.
And when God took my heart of stone and gave me a heart of flesh all those years of pain I caused others came rushing in and all the sudden I had a clear understanding of what I had always caused. HOW COULD I BE SO INDIFFERENT TO OTHER PEOPLES PAIN? Simply put.....I WAS SELFISH!
The road to redemption starts by stepping on that road and exposing yourself to the elements that may come along the way. Those elements may come in different forms, maybe ridicule, maybe hate, maybe laughter, maybe misunderstanding, maybe mistrust, maybe vengence, but the first element you will face is TRUTH! You can't even begin to walk this road if you can't admit who you are and take responsibility for what you've done. Once you can admit that then one of two things will happen. You will either step off this road with no desire to changed BECAUSE of your indifference, or you will move forward BECAUSE of the difference that is in you.
You see it's a choice, it's ALWAYS been a choice! But sometimes we make the wrong choice, even then we are blessed enough to be given the chance to make another choice, and my choice was made. I CHOSE CHANGE!
This change didn't happen overnight. I made the choice 6 years ago and reaching out for help is a part of this change.
This new me is who writes what you read.
I write because I would like your support in seeking a review of my extended sentence. Yes I agreed to this sentence and accepted this in a plea bargain. But with my renewed mind I see things different. Why was my plea agreement longer than people who have taken lives and in most cases, VIOLENTLY!! In my case the biggest PHYSICAL harm I caused was a back hand to only one of my four victims.
It's hard to explain to my daughters why people are killing people and getting significantly smaller sentences than me.
Believe me, I'M NOT AT ALL MINIMIZING WHAT I'VE DONE. I'm simply asking why? Why the long sentence when I didn't kill any one, rape any one, or molest any one?
What's the goal? Isn't it rehabilitation? Than with confidence I can say I have been rehabilitated, 100% WITHOUT A DOUBT!
There's nothing like watching your little girls grow from behind bars and watch for 15 and a half years the pain leaving them has caused. And now I have two grandchildren. I don't want to lose time with them also.
I can no longer sit by knowing who I am now and not try to reach out for help.I don't know what to expect but I know God directs my steps, so my first step is this petition. So please sign this petition to support me in whatever help God chooses to bring.
There needs to be a change in OVER SENTENCING.
All I ask is that you pray first before you sign.
God bless you all.
