Petition updateA Fake Nude Can Destroy a Real Life. Congress Must Pass the DEFIANCE Act!TAKE IT DOWN is now in effect. But removal is not the same as justice.

Yesterday, the TAKE IT DOWN Act officially went into effect.

Covered platforms must now give victims a way to report nonconsensual intimate images, including AI-generated ones, and remove them within 48 hours of a valid request. If they fail to comply, victims can report that at TakeItDown.ftc.gov

That is historic progress. But removal is not the same as justice. AI has made it possible for someone’s face and identity to be turned into sexually explicit content without their consent. That is why the next step is the DEFIANCE Act because survivors need a stronger path to go after perpetrators, not just platforms.

I’m also continuing to support work being done by HMS / Have More Space with Stefanie Hammett, Alecto AI and the Alecto Foundation founded by Breeze Liu, and My Own Image founded by Susanna Gibson. This movement is evolving from awareness into infrastructure.

If you believe survivors deserve more than a takedown, share this petition and ask your friends to sign it.

The more people who add their names, the more pressure we put on lawmakers to pass the DEFIANCE Act.
