🌿 LET’S TAKE ACTION AND IMPROVE THE MISSING LINK! 🌿

Dear Supporter,

It's time to turn our support for the Missing Link into practical action!

Firstly, thank you for supporting our campaign to improve the footway between Gowerton and Penclawdd. Your support, signatures and continued interest help demonstrate just how important this route is to our local communities.

For some time, we have been highlighting the poor condition, inadequate width and ongoing maintenance issues affecting this section of the B4295. The overgrown scrub and overhanging vegetation make an already narrow footway even more restrictive, with some sections offering less than one metre of usable width.

Whilst we continue to press Swansea Council for the investment needed to deliver a properly widened, safer and more accessible route, we are proposing to take some immediate community action ourselves.

🌿 COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERING MORNING – SUNDAY 22 NOVEMBER

We are looking to organise a small community volunteering morning, starting at approximately 9.30am on Sunday 22 November, to tackle some of the overgrown vegetation along the Missing Link between Gowerton and Penclawdd.

We would love to hear from supporters who might be willing to give up a couple of hours to help improve the immediate condition of the footway.

You don't need to be an expert gardener! We are looking for willing volunteers who can help with appropriate light vegetation clearance, subject to the necessary permissions and safety arrangements.

Why are we doing this?

We believe there is something important about local people coming together to improve their surroundings rather than simply accepting the situation.

However, we want to be absolutely clear about one thing.

Clearing the overgrowth is not the solution to the Missing Link's underlying problems.

There is a risk that improving the immediate appearance and usable width of the footway could create the impression that the problem has been resolved. It hasn't.

Our campaign remains firmly focused on securing the wider investment needed to widen and improve this route, so that pedestrians, wheelchair users, cyclists, joggers and other non-motorised users can travel safely and comfortably between our villages.

Vegetation clearance is a short-term improvement, not a substitute for the infrastructure investment that is long overdue.

How can you help?

We are looking for:

Volunteers willing to give up a couple of hours on the morning.
People with experience of gardening, pruning or vegetation management.
Offers of suitable hand tools and equipment.
Local businesses or organisations willing to offer practical support.
We anticipate a small group of no more than ten volunteers. All work will be subject to the necessary permissions and appropriate health and safety arrangements. We will concentrate on manageable work, avoid working at height and ensure the area is left clean, tidy and free of waste.

Please get involved and spread the word!

If you are interested in joining us, please reply to northgoweraccesspath@gmail.com or through our Facebook/Instagram pages to register your interest. Of course you can just turn on the morning also.

Even if you cannot attend, you can still help by sharing this appeal with friends, family, neighbours and local community groups.

We will also be sharing updates, photographs and details of the proposed activity through our social media channels.

Together, we can make a difference – but we must not lose sight of the bigger picture.

Let's show what a community can achieve when it comes together, whilst continuing to make the case for the proper investment and improvements that the Missing Link deserves.

Thank you again for your support.

Best wishes,

The Missing Link Campaign Team
