Hello all
Just a short update on recent announcements that relate to our campaign from Welsh Government, Swansea Local Authority and local councillors.
We appreciate we are still in a foundation stage of our campaign to improve the #missinglink so it can be difficult to get a cohesive picture on the timeline or future plans, however it is always welcome news when you read media news (Swansea Bay News) reporting on funding allocated to our campaign: “The grant will also help in the design phase of five new routes, including Penllergaer Woods to Tircoed Village, Penclawdd to Gowerton and Newton to Mumbles.”
A recent reply from the Active travel team in the LA mentions some of the stages that need to be undertaken such as surveys, land issues, road safety etc which in themselves dictate how timely the project will take but also necessary so that the funding can be applied for. They did mention that they expect to carry out ‘public engagement’ on the design towards the end of this year.
We hope that this will be staged in both communities of Penclawdd and Gowerton, providing opportunities to get local contribution to the project. This should hopefully go someway to clear up any ambiguity of the process which has crept in this year in particular.
Communication to Gowerton Councillors from the Highways & Transportation department in Swansea Local Authority can be viewed through this link: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/NuDdL17QZQYqzE3Z/ It confirms that funding is in place for the “development stage” of the #missinglink project along with other positive news on the progress for the Pont Y Cob Rd development.
Finally, it was welcome to see confirmation that engagement was initiated by the LA with respective landowners who we appreciate are vital stakeholders in a successful outcome of our campaign to improve the #missinglink between Gowerton and Penclawdd.
“Over the past month we have been seeking contract with respective landowners for entry to undertake survey work enabling detail design to be undertaken and determine the full extents of land required for the scheme. This work will continue through the summer months with planned public engagement to take place in the Autumn.” Correspondence between Active Travel dept. to Cllr Susan Jones
Thanks again for your continued support and watch out for future updates.
