A Call To End Corruption in UK Politics - giving power to the people

A Call To End Corruption in UK Politics - giving power to the people
The Issue
To: The Prime Minister, Members of Parliament, and His Majesty the King
We, the undersigned, demand an immediate shift toward a truly democratic system where the British people have a direct say in how the country is governed.
For too long, elected officials have made major decisions without genuine public approval on matters such as taxation, war, immigration, spending priorities, and national security. The people of Britain should not be treated as spectators while politicians act in their own interests. We demand a system that puts the power where it belongs - with the people.
We Call for the Following Changes:
1. Legally Binding Referendums on Major National Decisions
- Any issue of national importance - such as military intervention, immigration laws, taxation, and government spending - must be decided by a public referendum, not just by politicians in Westminster.
2. A New Constitutional Framework for Participatory Democracy
- The UK must create a People’s Assembly or Citizen Council to oversee key decisions, ensuring that laws reflect the will of the people.
- The monarchies and government’s decision-making powers should be reviewed, with the people having the final say on all major policies.
3. Greater Transparency and Accountability for Politicians
- MPs must be held accountable for decisions that go against public interest, with mechanisms in place for citizen-led recalls and resignations if necessary.
4. A Fairer Voting System
- The UK’s outdated voting system does represent the people’s true voice. We demand a restructured electoral system that allows direct public influence over policy, not just party politics.
Why This Matters:
- The cost of living crisis worsens while politicians continue to fund foreign wars and send billions overseas.
- British citizens are excluded from key decisions affecting their lives, from public health policies to taxation and immigration.
- The government does not act in the interest of the people, and politicians ignore public referendums when it suits them.
- Other nations already practice direct democracy with proven success, including Switzerland, which allows its people to vote on key policies regularly.
We Demand Action Now
We, the people of the United Kingdom, call for urgent constitutional reform to give citizens real decision-making power. The days of politicians ruling without public consent must come to an end. If you believe in democracy, stand with us. Sign this petition and make your voice heard.
