A Broken System Protects No One — It's Time to Abolish the RTB

The Issue

Ever had a lousy landlord?
Or been a landlord dealing with a bad-faith tenant?

The problem isn’t one side or the other—
The problem is the Residential Tenancy Branch.

The RTB has failed renters, failed landlords, and failed to uphold the very law it exists to enforce.

Here’s what’s happening:

-Procedural resets that benefit landlords who stall or no-show.
-Staff who misfile serious requests, then dodge accountability.
-Decisions made without transparency or due process.
-Contradictions between internal policy and how staff actually operate.
-No enforcement of rulings—even when fraud or misconduct is involved.

I’ve personally witnessed:

-A landlord submit falsified documents without penalty.
-The RTB ignore documented fraud that was later flagged by another agency.
-A hearing reset to shield the RTB from scrutiny—not to serve justice.
-Staff and adjudicators deflect responsibility to agencies I’d already contacted.

And I’m not alone.

Whether you’re a tenant or landlord—you deserve a system that works.

We Don’t Need RTB Reform. We Need RTB Abolished.

Here’s what must replace it:

-A new, independent body that enforces the Residential Tenancy Act.
-Transparent decisions with real oversight—not hidden behind PDF walls.
-Staff empowered and obligated to uphold the law—not dodge it.
-A streamlined system that enforces its own rulings—fairly and consistently.

It needs a reset.
