Veteran journalist and author Darryl D'Monte passed away on Saturday in Mumbai. He had been suffering from cancer for the past year, and had been undergoing treatment. He was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Bandra where he passed away later in the day.

D'Monte wrote passionately on environmental issues during his long and illustrious career in journalism. He served as resident editors of both The Times of India and the Indian Express during his four-decade-long career.

Darryl D'Monte served as the chairperson of the Forum of Environmental Journalists of India (FEJI) and was the founder president of International Federation of Environmental Journalists in Dresden, Germany.

His passing away is a big loss to the cause of public transport in particular and environment in general.
