As you may be aware, on Friday March 9th, a group of 30 patients, academics and psychiatrists formally complained that the president of the UK Royal College of Psychiatrists had misled the public over antidepressant safety. The next morning, Professor John Read was interviewed on BBC Radio 4 along with GP Clare Gerada. You can listen to the interview here: https://soundcloud.com/user-581729117/bbc-r4-today-professor-john-read One of the points of contention is the statement made that ‘[for] the vast majority of patients, any unpleasant symptoms experienced on discontinuing antidepressants have resolved within two weeks of stopping treatment’. This statement continues to be made and yet is never backed up with facts or evidence in support. In response, on Twitter, people are sharing their experiences using the hashtag #MoreThan2Weeks which is proving to be a powerful counterpoint to the statements made by some psychiatrists. If you use Twitter, please consider sharing your own experience of withdrawal, or what you have witnessed others having to endure and use the hashtag #MoreThan2 Weeks. Let our experiences be a matter of public record and stand in direct challenge to the attempt to minimise and marginalise our experiences. Thank you, as always, for your support and your signatures. James
