What about the good people who live in New Orleans - like you and me? Where is the plan to ensure our quality of life and safety? Our Mayor promised us a plan … we haven’t seen one. That’s unacceptable.
I’m all for the existing service - wrap around services - that help families who are marginalized. Poverty and hopelessness are community killers. And, New Orleans has a budget and programming to attack those issues. Those initiatives have been funded for generations. If those programs aren’t working then our elected officials must change that - it’s their job. It’s called accountability.
Who is accountable for making our neighborhoods safe and walkable? What about the protection and feeling of safety for the thousands of citizens that go to work and school everyday? Who spend their hard earned dollars within our community? What about the elderly that have spent their years in New Orleans raising a family, volunteering, going to church and making their neighborhood work?
Everyday citizens deserve safety. A New Orleans Safe is good for everyone … and our social contract with our elected officials is to provide safety and security - a real safe city not just a feeling but a reality. If you can’t even get gas without fear what do we have? Broken promises - that’s what we have.
I ask you to reach out to five friends, neighbors and family members and ask them to sign this petition. New Orleanians need action we can see.
This is our voices … our respectful call for aNew Orleans Safe.
I attached a CNN article about policing across the US - it’s complicated for sure. But with a good approach from the bottom up - we can be safe again … please ask more to join the call for safety … New Orleans Safe.
