400 South Squeeze

The Issue

Everyday ten's of thousands of vehicles head south on GA 400. Every day, for no noticeably scientific reason thousands of cars merge from the far right, 4th lane into the 3rd right lane at exit 7 (Holcomb Bridge/Roswell).

The highway goes from 4 lanes to 3 lanes even though it is heading toward Atlanta and then opens back up to 4 lanes as the Holcomb Bridge south onramp merges with 400.

The existing pavement is, as far as the eye can tell, of the same quality as the other 3 lanes and has an additional shoulder to boot.

It seems that a simple lane striping job would provide commuters with an additional 30 to 90 minutes of their life back every single day (2 to 3 weeks each year).

No construction necessary. Just a paint job and no one would need to merge over to the 3 remaining lanes, creating the infamous "400 South Squeeze" multiple times a day, most days of the week.

This is a minimal financial impact, low hanging fruit type of project that could begin and end in a day or two, or if we really want to spread it out, a week or two- yet everyone seems to gloss over how much of their life is affected by this simple oversight.

I for one would like to see this fixed, yesterday, and get a few weeks, each year, of my life back.
