Petition update30 Days Is Enough: Ontario Needs a Lemon Law

1,000 signatures. Ontario needs a lemon law.

We just passed 1,000 signatures on the petition. Thank you to everyone who’s signed, shared, commented, or helped get it in front of more people. Your support gives this issue weight, and I’m grateful for it.

My Volvo has now spent more than 410 cumulative days at the dealership service centre. I’m still paying for it while the lawsuit moves forward. The financial cost has been significant, along with the time, stress, and effort demanded by a fight I never wanted.

But this has made me more determined to ensure future consumers never have to endure the same nightmare. There will always be lemons, but the risk belongs squarely with the manufacturers, sellers, and service centres permitted to do business in our province. It is unconscionable to sell a new vehicle under warranty and let the cost and consequence hang on the consumer if it fails.

I have shared the petition with provincial and federal elected officials, and they owe us a response. Ontario’s protections are plainly inadequate. There must be a clear, enforceable point at which manufacturers and dealerships are required to provide a meaningful remedy, whether they do so voluntarily or not.

And, of course, this is bigger than one Volvo, one service centre, or one stubborn guy in Ottawa. So I’ll keep pushing for change after my own dispute is resolved, and I hope you’ll keep helping.

Please continue to share if you can. If you have a related story, consider adding it in the comments. I believe we can even the playing field. Thanks again for your support.

Michael
