The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) administers much of the humanitarian aid, healthcare, social services and education to Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. It is funded primarily by voluntary government donations, with the US being the largest donor. Humanitarian aid is certainly needed now and Biden committed $100M beyond the US traditional commitment with more to come. An important concern is the use of antii-Jewish and anti-Israeli books and curriculum, including the glorification of martyrdom and intifada in their schools. They do not screen their 30,000 employees for membership in terrorist groups and their employees include at least some members of Hamas. This must stop immediately – fire members of Hamas and similar groups, destroy books or portions thereof that are antisemitic, change the curriculum and fire employees that celebrate the October 7th massacre. Do all this in a verifiable fashion and do it now.
We must not abandon the humanitarian needs of Palestinians but we must demand accountability of UNRWA. We do not want them creating a next generation of terrorists. What can you do? Write. Acknowledge the urgent need for humanitarian aid but also demand UNRWA accountability. Write to:
