#1bru1Vote: 5 communes last week, 5 of your friends this week!

Dear #1bru1Vote supporters, Last week, we demonstrated how much support #1bru1Vote can get when we mobilise our friends. We want the right for all residents to vote in the Brussels-Capital elections to be a top priority for candidates and political parties in 14 October's local elections. We want the law to be changed before next year's regional elections! After our February Flagey Town Hall, you created local groups (https://www.facebook.com/1Bru1Vote/photos/a.773073469549416.1073741828.769909416532488/784670895056340/?type=3&theater), signed your non-Belgian friends up to vote in October and launched Citizens Initiatives across Brussels. Despite the warm reception received for the first Citizens Initiative (Interpellation citoyenne) in Etterbeek, we could not have imagined how much support we'd receive from Brussels politicians and locals. Since then, we’ve had Citizens Initiatives in the communes of Forest, Saint-Gilles, Ixelles and Molenbeek and Evere, and 4 of those communes have passed motions in favour of our campaign. Evere will vote soon! Support has come from all political parties and the votes were UNANIMOUS in Saint-Gilles and Molenbeek. Contact your local group via FaceBook to help get the 20 signatures needed for a Citizens Initiative your commune! NOW that we have obtained 5 communes' support in 1 week, we need YOU to get 5 friends' signatures in 1 week. THIS WEEK, we are asking each of you – our 3,600 signatories -- to personally ask 5-to-10 Brussels friends to sign the https://www.change.org/p/1bru1vote. Write to them by email or facebook/twitter messenger. Explain why all residents should be able to vote in the Brussels-Capital elections and share our achievements and goals. We want to obtain over 6,000 signatures by EUROPE DAY 9 May and submit them to the BRUSSELS REGIONAL PARLIAMENT. How beautiful that the 1st petition to the plenary of the Brussels Parliament would be presented in the name of the 310,000 Brussels residents who are unrepresented and excluded from its halls! We will be collecting signatures on 5 or 6 May on paper and tablets at the EU's Open Days and the Brussels Region's Iris Festival.
