159 Collins Street, Thornbury, VIC, 3071 - Oppose overdevelopment

The issue

Over 35 residents in and around Collins Street, Thornbury, have come together to fight a planning application for a proposed development in the neighbourhood.

We feel that no homeowners or renters in Thornbury are safe from overdevelopment and we want to tell the town planners that make the decisions on our behalf that 'ENOUGH IS ENOUGH'.

We want to protect our homes and growing families and continue to enjoy the things we moved to our homes in the first place. It is unfair and unjust to have all of these things taken away by the decisions of just a few people  and who don't live in the neighbourhood or know the grass roots and community feel that Thornbury is well known for.

We want to keep our sunshine and not be overshadowed, we want to be advocates of climate change and install solar power that will work and NOT turn off at 3pm in the afternoon due to overshadowing. We want to maintain the neighbourhood patina and character of our beautiful street. We want to keep Thornbury accessible to families and not introduce overly expensive builds that will push up rates and drive families out due to unaffordability. We want to have privacy and quiet spaces in our backyards, to be able to get away from the hustle and bustle, to maintaining good mental health, and not feel like we are being watched 24/7.

We want to ensure that a precedence is not set, whereby the neighbourhood character will be slowly eroded by subdivisions and badly built megastructures that don't fit in or stand the test of time.

We hope that you will pledge your support by signing our petition. To keep the pressure up is to maintain a relevant voice that will help keep precedents at bay. A successful outcome will be a clear message to developers, that they're not welcome.
