Our son David Ejimofor recently drowned at Aberavon Beach, Wales on 19th June 2023. He was only 15. Our dear David was athletic, talented in many ways and had his whole life ahead of him, having just completed his GCSEs. He was encouraged by friends to join them in jumping off the pier, but got into difficulty in the water.

As described by locals, this is a yearly coming of age ceremony practiced after GCSEs and A-Levels that the community is very aware of. For David it ended in a terrible, preventable tragedy. We don't want David to be another statistic. We want his death to be used as a cannon for change resulting in improved safety measures on Aberavon beach to make sure that no other family has to go through this horrific ordeal.

David’s death could, and should, have been prevented if the Council had introduced the safety precautions that were needed. Please support our petition to tell Neath Port Talbot Council and ABP that they need to act now to make the beach a safer place by introducing more safety measures on Aberavon beach.
