Are Animal Shelters Fueling The Backyard Breeder Epidemic?

Frustrated people are looking to other sources (backyard breeders).

Why are shelters hidden in the worst possible locations instead of being an important part of the community and an important public resource?

Why do so called shelter “administrators”refuse to fully open to the public, open evening hours or require appointments that are almost impossible to make?

Why do they blame the public for allegedly “having to euthanize.”?  Killing is a choice, primarily made by those who refuse to engage in lifesaving alternatives.

Shouldn’t we be making pet adoptions and helping animals the best possible experience?

What happens when adopters are regularly turned away or even unaware of their local shelter?

Way too many just give up! Sadly, people go for the easiest option. They go to Craigslist or one of hundreds of other sites and even meet backyard breeders in parking lots!

There are 15 million annual ads for backyard breeder puppies with access as easy as text messaging.

15 million backyard breeder ads published every year.

Think this impacts shelter adoptions?

Is it another reason for shelters being overcrowded? It is one thing that can be easily addressed without any financial commitment from government.

Puptax.com: is a proposed law to require tax and registration to receive a permit to advertise any pet for sale.

Advertising registration would require photo ID, physical location, puppy place of birth and other abuse or fraud prevention data.

Pet sellers must provide proper detailed registration and a substantial paid tax to receive a checkable permit number through a public database.

Advertisers permit number, expiration date, verified name address and phone number are required in every ad.

It’s common knowledge that Backyard Breeders don’t pay taxes or follow regulations.

It’s simple: they won’t comply. That’s completely OK and to be expected!

This proposed law prevents the ACCEPTANCE of ads offering animals for sale in any form, prior to tax and verifiable detailed registration by the advertiser.

It is critically important to believe that law abiding publications and websites will comply.

NO TAX & REGISTRATION = NO PERMIT,

NO PERMIT = NO ADS,

NO ADS = NO SALES AND NO PROFITS:

Eliminating an estimated  15 million “pets for sale” ads a year means animal shelters and rescues are that much closer to bringing overpopulation under control.
