Today, we gather to honor African Liberation Day with the spirit of resistance and empowerment. Yet, for those of us in the Southeast, our own journey to liberation is stalled—not by lack of will, but by lack of road. Ten (10) years is wait too much to wait for a main road to be fixed.
This afternoon’s “Walk with Traoré” event is happening less than 30 minutes away. But for us, it’s a 2-hour, costly drive just to get there—because our main road still has not been fixed.
Most times, we cannot even guarantee that we’ll get to Roseau and back. And still, we rise.
We work. We show up. We build.
We continue to toil under these unjust conditions, waiting for action, waiting for connection, waiting for our voices to be heard.
This is more than a road. This is about access, dignity, and equity.
Let this march today also be a reminder that the Southeast deserves liberation too—through safe roads, reliable infrastructure, and inclusion in the nation’s development.
