Big waves combined with the highest tide of the lunar cycle could have caused massive dune erosion as in 2014. Fortunately most of the waves energy was absorbed by the beach-wide underwater sandbank 150m from the dunes. These sandbanks were formed following record rainfalls and sand displacement and redistribution by a succession of typhoon swells.
