On 11, March I was randomly picked out to take part in a so-called “crowd sourcing” (13-24, March 2017) organized by Moscow authorities. This kind of on-line discussion is supposed to help officials work out a legislation which will regulate the sphere of contact zoos in Moscow (however, there are no federal laws on the subject). I accepted the proposal. Eventually, on the first day of the discussion its participants were informed that the idea of closing contact zoos is not going to be taken into consideration as it could infringe the interests of get-involved business people. Besides, it was announced that they wouldn’t accept ideas of improving animals’ living conditions if those ideas required additional investments. All in all I sent 18 proposals to the officials but nearly all of them were declined and got the status of “Commentaries”. By the way, most of the proposals were rather sensible: restrict the number of people contacting animals, hire keepers for contacts’ control, etc. It’s clear the officials plan to legalize the horrible way contact zoos function now. I need your help! Ask more people to sign this petition, spread it wider!
