It is with great urgency and personal distress that I address the heartbreaking policy affecting animals in Cyprus. asymptomatic animals are cruelly marked for culling, despite showing no signs of illness.It causes great emotional suffering for animal caretakers, watching healthy animals headed for death.”

Animals that are healthy pose no immediate threat, and culling them is an extreme measure that lacks compassion and rationality. The focus should instead be on rational solutions that preserve life and maintain public health.

I call upon the European Union and the Cyprus government to take a humane and progressive approach to this issue. First and foremost, cease the killing of asymptomatic animals immediately. Instead, let's protect them with widespread vaccination initiatives, ensuring they remain healthy and free from disease. 
Furthermore, for those families and individuals who have already suffered the loss of their beloved animals due to current policies, it is essential that the government provides immediate and adequate compensation. This support will alleviate some of the financial and emotional burdens these individuals face, acknowledging the deep value of the animals in their care.

By shifting policy focus from culling to vaccination and support, the Cyprus government, in coordination with the European Union, can exemplify humane treatment to animals while still safeguarding public health. This is a moment where we can choose compassion, science, and respect over fear-driven measures.
