Χρησιμοποιώντας την ευρέως διαδεδομένη πλατφόρμα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης facebook, καθημερινά συναντούμε αγγελίες πώλησης ζώων, κυρίως σκύλων από συμπολίτες μας.
Πέρα από την ηθικά απαράδεκτη πράξη της αγοραπωλησίας ζώων, η οποία προφανώς δεν είναι αρκετή για να οδηγηθούν στον εισαγγελέα, εγείρουμε και τα ακόλουθα ζητήματα νομιμότητας που χρήζουν δική σας διερεύνησης:

Όλοι αυτοί οι οποίοι διαφημίζουν και πωλούν σκύλους διαδικτυακά είναι νόμιμοι εκτροφείς;
Έχουν εγκαταστάσεις σύμφωνες με την κείμενη νομοθεσία; Διαθέτουν έγγραφα και κρατικές άδειες;
Δηλώνουν τα εισοδήματα της κατά επάγγελμα ενασχολησής τους στην Εφορία; Διατηρούν λογιστικά βιβλία;
Διατηρούν υγειονομικό αρχείο;

Οι συμμετέχοντες είναι εύκολο να ελεχθούν, τα ονοματεπωνυμά τους είναι ορατά.

Όλοι γνωρίζετε το τεράστιο πρόβλημα των αδεσπότων ζώων στην Κυπρο, όπως και την κατάσταση των καταφυγίων. Όπως σίγουρα γνωρίζετε και την υπεράνθρωπη προσπάθεια εθελοντών να σώσουν αυτές τις ζωές.
Ίσως δεν γνωρίζετε ότι μεγάλος αριθμός των «καθαρόαιμων» σκύλων που πωλούνται, τελικά εγκαταλείπονται στον δρόμο από ανεύθυνους «ιδιοκτήτες» (μια βόλτα σε ένα οποιοδήποτε καταφύγιο θα σας πείσει) και γίνονται αδέσποτα με pedigree…

Θα σας παρακαλούσαμε να γνωστοποιήσετε αν διατίθεστε να πράξετε οποιαδήποτε ενέργεια προς έλεγχο των παρανομούντων και την εφαρμογή της υφιστάμενης νομοθεσίας.

To the Chief of Police
On a daily basis, using the universal internet platform Facebook, we come across pages and groups set up in Cyprus, which advertise the selling/breeding/trading of live animals and in particular dogs of all sizes and breeds including dangerous/banned breeds. All the 'breeders' and suppliers are based in Cyprus.

Apart from the immoral, unethical and unacceptable act of buying/selling/breeding of any pet or domesticated animals, there are also serious legal issues too, which centre on the control of such places where breeding dogs can be found, to breaches in the current Animal Welfare Laws.
The problems and questions that arise from the legal aspect are as follows:
1. Are the people who advertise, breed and sell dogs of all sizes and breeds , acting within the bounds of the current legislation to do so?
2. Do these individuals and or groups which practice the breeding and selling dogs lie within the laws and regulations?
3. Do these breeders and sellers have permits and state documents which allow them to breed and sell?
4. Do these breeders and sellers pay the applicable taxes of their so called 'profession' and 'income' to the tax office?
5. Do they maintain records? (Health, registration/litter records) which are open to inspection by the appropriate Government Department?

https://www.facebook.com/groups/253113571480948/   These breeders/traders/advertisers/suppliers are easily verifiable and identifiable as names and phone numbers are clearly given in these pages/groups.

There is a serious problem with the stray dog population in Cyprus - it is not a new phenomenon. It is also a known fact that thousands of selfless volunteers participate in helping these stray dogs- something owr own government refuses to acknowledge, assist with or accept.
However, what you may not know is the fact a large number of the stray dogs presently located in the island’s shelters and pounds, are in fact abandoned pure Purebreds that were once used for breeding or bred to be sold.
We can assure you a walk to the closest shelter and/or pound will convince you of this fact.
We are now essentially filled with purebred strays simply due to irresponsible owners and breeders- otherwise referred to as Back Yard Breeders who use and breed dogs purely for financial gain.
Allowing dogs to be sold to totally unsuitable owners and homes.I urge you to become familiar with this problem which is getting worse on a daily basis and to act on it now using the laws and regulations that are already in place.
