Immediate refuge for Parnitha Red Deer!
The Issue
To the Ministry of Environment and Energy, General Directorate of Forests, and the Prosecution Office for the Protection of Animals and the Environment:
The red deer of Parnitha – one of the most iconic species of the Parnitha National Nature Reserve in Greece– is facing extinction! The population has plummeted from 1,100–1,300 individuals in 2015 to just 50–60 individuals today! It is rapidly heading toward extinction unless it is protected! Regardless of the various perspectives on the direct or indirect causes that have been raised over time (e.g. increased wolf populations, wildfires, urbanization, human encroachment, illegal hunting, etc.), what is urgently needed today is immediate protective intervention!!! We demand the immediate implementation of a rescue plan for the red deer in Parnitha – a protected and fenced area where the few remaining deer will be able to continue living within the Parnitha national park before they are definitively eradicated! Discussions regarding the causes and long-term solutions can take place concurrently; however, the few remaining deer cannot wait any longer! They must be protected immediately – while there is still time! IMMEDIATE activation of the sanctuary for the Red Elafi of Parnitha – today!! Το κόκκινο ελάφι της Πάρνηθας, ένα από τα πιο εμβληματικά ζώα του Εθνικoύ Δρυμού Πάρνηθας, κινδυνεύει με εξαφάνιση! Ο αριθμός των ελαφιών έχει καταρρεύσει από 1.100–1.300 άτομα το 2015 σε 50-60 ζώα σήμερα! Οδεύει ολοταχώς προς εξαφάνιση, αν δεν προστατευτεί! Όποιες κι αν είναι οι διαφορετικές απόψεις σχετικά με τα άμεσα ή έμμεσα αίτια που έχουν διατυπωθεί κατά καιρούς (πχ. αύξηση λύκων, πυρκαγιές, αστικοποίηση, ανθρώπινη όχληση, παράνομο τάισμα κλπ), όποια κι αν είναι τα αίτια, αυτό που επείγει σήμερα είναι ΆΜΕΣΗ ΠΑΡΕΜΒΑΣΗ ΠΡΟΣΤΑΣΙΑΣ!!!Ζητούμε:
Την ΑΜΕΣΗ ΛΕΙΤΟΥΡΓΙΑ ΚΑΤΑΦΥΓΙΟΥ ΓΙΑ ΤΟ ΚΟΚΚΙΝΟ ΕΛΑΦΙ ΣΤΗΝ ΠΑΡΝΗΘΑ, ενός προστατευμένου και περιφραγμένου χώρου, όπου τα ελάχιστα ζώα που έχουν απομείνει, θα συνεχίσουν να ζουν στον εθνικό δρυμό Πάρνηθας, πριν εξαφανιστούν οριστικά!
Συζητήσεις για τα αίτια και τις μακροπρόθεσμες λύσεις μπορούν να γίνουν παράλληλα, όμως τα ελάχιστα ελάφια που έχουν απομείνει δεν μπορούν να περιμένουν!! Πρέπει να προστατευθούν άμεσα, όσο είναι ακόμη καιρός!
