Urge Michigan lawmakers to define employment terms and end unfair production standards

Urge Michigan lawmakers to define employment terms and end unfair production standards
The Issue
In the state of Michigan, there is a lack of clarity on what constitutes an employer, employee, and quota. Unclear definitions lead to exploitation in the workplace and a power imbalance between employers and workers. Some workers can be taken advantage of depending on their specific job title, and employers can refuse to give them the benefits they deserve. In other cases, employees are told to meet unrealistic production standards, which leads to higher injury rates, overexertion, and fear of termination if they speak up about their working conditions.
We propose an initiative to clearly define the roles of an ‘employer,’ ‘employee,’ and ‘quota’ in Michigan labor law, and to mandate employers to provide a written description of each employee’s quotas and production standards if requested. Additionally, we urge legislators to impose strict penalties for employers who retaliate against workers exercising their rights in the workplace. By doing so, we can ensure that employers are held accountable in the workplace and reduce the power imbalance between employers and employees.
Let’s demand action from our lawmakers to protect Michigan workers from unfair treatment in the workplace and implement penalties for employers who retaliate against workers who exercise their rights. Sign this petition to help protect Michigan businesses’ greatest assets: their workers.
