Over the past 18 months hundreds of thousands of Kiwis overseas have been separated from family and friends due to New Zealand's closed border and the MIQ lottery. They have missed funerals, weddings and births, and feel increasingly isolated and disconnected from their homeland. 

But by December we will have vaccinated over 80% of our adult population against Covid. With the virus' threat substantially reduced, we can begin to open back up to the world. And the first step should be to bring Kiwis home for Christmas. 

To make this happen, we are asking that the Government let NZ passport holders skip MIQ from 1 December if they are: 

• vaccinated
• return a negative pre-departure test taken 72 hours before boarding
• take a test on arrival and isolate at home until the results are returned

A recent study showed of nearly 10,000 vaccinated passengers that travelled from the US to Italy who were tested pre and post departure, only 1 tested positive to Covid on arrival. The risk posed is negligible, and entirely manageable.
