Convert Killiney Beach Carpark to Tented Emergency Accommodation

The Issue

In the midst of the current crisis in housing refugees and asylum seekers, and in light of recent violence and far-right hostilities, it is more important than ever to identify safe areas for encampments.

The car park at Killiney Beach has a tarmac-area of 20,000 square feet, additional green spaces, direct access to Killiney Bay Beach - it even has a defibrillator! The car park is a 15 minute walk from Ballybrack village, as well as a 4-minute and 7-minute train journey to Shankill and Dalkey respectively, through the conveniently placed Killiney DART station across the road.

This site also has a state of the art toilet block which could be further adapted to include cooking and shower areas. These facilities, combined with the abundant space, could easily accommodate 100 individuals, if not more, and still leave room for car parking for locals.

This site would be a fantastic location to accommodate refugees and asylum seekers in tented accommodation, not only for the practical reasons listed above, but also for fact that it is one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Dublin, with many holistic benefits.
