Solution for engine failure in Kia and Hyundai EVs
The Issue
Many owners of Kia and Hyundai electric cars (Niro, Soul, Kona, Ioniq and possibly others) are having problems with a motor and gearbox failure, initially perceived as a light rattling noise (here).
This problem is already well-known by Kia and Hyundai workshops all over the world. From what we understand, there is still no definitive solution. What they do is change parts progressively: first a support, then the reduction box and finally the electric motor. In many cases the problem comes back within a few thousand miles and in some cases the engine has been changed twice and the problem still comes back. In Europe, Kia cars have a guarantee of seven years or 150,000 km; therefore, most cars with the problem are still under guarantee. But there are an increasing number of people who continue with problem after the guarantee has run out.
If it a solution is not found, it will do a lot of damage to the excellent reputation of Kia and Hyundai, and will discourage people from buying electric cars in general.
For all these reasons, we demand that Kia / Hyundai investigate the root of the problem and, above all, that the repair be offered without a deadline, i.e. indefinitely after the guarantee runs out.
