Appeal MND, URA and Kembangan MP to Reconsider Proposed Changes to Kembangan Master Plan
The Issue
As residents of Kembangan, Singapore, we have been part of a vibrant community that cherishes our multi-purpose open field and community club. These spaces are not just physical structures; they are the heart of our neighbourhood where we engage in healthy activities and foster strong bonds. Thousands like me share this sentiment.
On 16th January 2024, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) announced proposed changes to the master plan for Kembangan. The Straits Times reported these changes on 20th January 2024. If implemented, these modifications will deprive us of our beloved open-air field and community club and will fundamentally alter the nature of Kembangan neighbourhood.
We understand that urban development is necessary for progress. However, it should not come at the cost of eroding communal spaces that have been integral to our way of life for years.
We urge the Ministry of Development (MND), URA and our Member of Parliament in Kembangan to reconsider these proposed changes. We request that Kembangan residents be consulted (preferably via polls similar to those done for HDB upgrading) to seek Kembangan residents' inputs before finalizing any proposed changes to the Kembangan neighbourhood plan that will fundamentally alter the characteristics of the neighbourhood and will take away the much beloved communal spaces that residents love.
Please sign this petition if you believe in preserving communal spaces as much as we do – because every signature counts towards saving what makes Kembangan home for thousands like me.
