The Issue

On February 5th, 2023, a beautiful, vibrant life was cut off. Bailey Lent-Veitch, known as Bailey Vivid, daughter, sister, and friend to many, was taken from us, the victim of vehicular manslaughter while the perpetrator was under the influence of alcohol. After 22 long and painful months, the man responsible was sentenced to a mere 6-20 years, with only 3-10 years being for the actual charge.

We stand today, sharing our story, echoing our pain, seeking justice not only for Bailey, but for every soul brutally extinguished due to the careless actions of drunk drivers. We maintain that no family should have to endure the loss we did. Albeit, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) statistics, 28 people die in the US every day due to drunk-driving crashes. This needs to stop.

We request that as citizens, eager to keep our roads safe, the sentencing guidelines for vehicular manslaughter while DUI be reconsidered and redefined. The current penalties undoubtedly fail to deliver justice. In 2024, we all are aware of the lethal aftermath of drunk driving and hence, it's a choice that must be held to the highest level of accountability.

Let us ensure that the legal justice system serves to deter such heinous acts and holds perpetrators accountable for their choices. Bailey, and thousands like her, deserve better. Amend the vehicular manslaughter sentencing under influence of alcohol, today. We implore you to rethink these laws. Show your support for this dire change, sign this petition.
