A mother turns grief for her daughter into a landmark campaign

Andrea Brady lost her precious daughter to cancer at the tragically young age of 27. Jess had consulted GPs more than 20 times over the six months before her death, but her cancer wasn’t diagnosed until it was too late.

“The success of this campaign is the result of every single person who chose to sign the petition on Change.org. Of course, Jess—full of integrity, determination, bravery, and kindness—has been an inspiration, motivating people to act and respond.”

The sense of loss was unimaginable for Andrea. But she was motivated by the conviction that she didn’t want anyone else to go through what Jess had to.

Jess’s Rule — which states that if a patient attends their GP for the third time with the same unresolved condition or escalating symptoms, their case should be elevated for a full review — is now coming into effect, four and a half years after Andrea started her petition on Change.org.
