Victorians raised their voices to call for tougher bail laws for repeat offenders, and they won

After an increase in repeat violent offences across Victoria, radio host and mum Fifi Box took action. Disturbed by the growing number of stories she heard from listeners involving assaults, home invasions and youth crime — many allegedly committed by offenders already out on bail — Fifi launched a petition on Change.org demanding urgent bail reform in Victoria.

Last week we saw the first set of reformed bail laws pass through the Victorian Parliament, only 22 days after this petition started... that is massive!

The petition quickly gained momentum, with over 100,000 people signing the petition in just one week. Supported by her Fifi, Fev & Nick co-hosts and fuelled by powerful on-air conversations, the campaign captured the attention of everyday citizens — and then, the Premier.

Just two weeks after the petition launched, Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan appeared live on air to announce a crackdown on bail for repeat offenders. The state government promised the toughest bail laws in the country, stronger protections, and a justice system that prioritises community safety.

"You've given voice to what is a serious issue," said the Premier.

The new laws were fasttracked through the Victorian Parliament, with listeners from around the state calling into Fifi, Fev and Nick to celebrate feeling safer in their homes.
